Our Vision

The Problem
While riding a plane, a passenger should feel secure and be able to enjoy a relaxing flight. If there is one thing that could make a plane ride less enjoyable, it is turbulence. These are the effects of turbulence, as the plane flies through pockets of rising, falling and rolling air.
As an airplane soars over the air, it typically encounters flat wind flow. This will convert into a smooth flight for the aircrew and travellers. However, on some voyages, the smooth cycle is disturbed by periods of shuddering, jostling and sometimes stomach-churning ups and downs.

Madaras and Friends is an organization founded by John S. Madaras IV on September 23rd, 2015. This company is aimed at providing high quality planes to reduce turbulence and make it a more enjoyable, relaxing experience.

Turbulence is defined as, “violent or unsteady movement of air or water, or of some other fluid.” Madaras and friends is working on methods to enable a pilot to potentially be able to have a higher awareness of air. With our team of highly trained engineer’s we are testing if using higher speeds through these rough patches of air would potentially reduce turbulence.

If pilots had a map that could tell them the air speeds and have alerts to when they are coming across turbulence and have alternative routes in order to keep passengers safe and cruise through the air with no stress. A team has already come across inventing a map, “NCAR's NEXRAD turbulence detection algorithm (NTDA) generates real-time maps of in-cloud turbulence to alert airline meteorologists and dispatchers to potentially dangerous areas of rough air.” This method is highly looked at and being tested to see if it will work.

For many fliers, running into air turbulence is the most thought-provoking feature of many air flights. Turbulence can cause an aircraft to shake and move suddenly and erratically from side to side or up and down. The effects of turbulence can be worrying and even terrifying, sparking panic that the airplane is out of control and about to crash or break apart. Madaras and Friends is dedicated to finding that cure that will reduce turbulence to make it a more relaxing ride for all.

Traveling to destinations by plane, weather is always a concern. The pilots need to get the passengers where they need to be safely and effectively. Passengers on flights often worry about landing safely and the status of the flight while in the air. They feel apprehension and concern if they are not notified about the changes in outside conditions such as an increase in turbulence. Turbulence is a major issue when aboard an aircraft for various reasons. It can cause structural damage to planes if a solution is not reached soon in order to reduce the amount of turbulence that often impacts travelers regularly. An additional issue is the fear that passengers face that their lives are being put in danger every time the flight encounters periods of intense turbulence.

Madaras and Friends is striving to create a solution which would reduce the amount of turbulence experienced on airplanes by the passengers in order to make the most comfortable flight experience possible. Wave turbulence is created when air comes off the edges of the wings of horizontal surfaces causing the bumpy ride we feel on the plane. Our company is testing the impacts of the NCAR's NEXRAD Turbulence Detection Algorithm (NTDA) to see if this mapping system would actually improve flight experiences by reducing turbulence while traveling through the air. This system accurately displays in-cloud turbulence and ways in which this hazard is avoided. While collaborating with a member of the FAA, additional information was gathered about this system. Madaras and Friends tested the NTDA map on many different flight simulations, and we proved that this was a successful and efficient method in improving the quality of a flight by decreasing the likelihood of experiencing dangerous turbulence.

As a result Madaras and Friends is implementing the addition of this NEXRAD Turbulence Detection Algorithm (NTDA) software map on nearly all planes that will be actively taking flight in the future. This new technology picks up variances in air density which is then avoided by pilots to ensure the safety of the people. The implementation of this innovative technology is essential to the successful reduction of the dangers of turbulence which play a role in aviation in today’s society.

Methodology

Madaras and Friends is striving to reduce the impacts of turbulence felt by passengers aboard an aircraft in order to create a safer flight experience. We have developed a strategy of testing the amount of turbulence experienced while on a plane in order to develop an effective solution to alleviate this problem.  Here are the steps used by Madaras and Friends to test turbulence and prove the solution:

Step 1: The first basic step is to estimate the transonic flows of the angle of attack and Mach number of experimental fluid dynamics and the turbulent viscosity of computational fluid dynamics.

Step 2: Calculate the pressures on the airflow of the wing surfaces of the plane.

Step 3: Investigate of the skin friction coefficient of the airflow on the surfaces.

Step 4: Determine the calculations of wind tunnel walls, which will then be utilized to investigate effects of the walls on various flows.

Step 5: Using the steps provided by Madaras and Friends, we now have a method to accurately test and determine the amount of turbulence experienced in specific cases. We can use the technology of NEXRAD Turbulence Detection Algorithm (NTDA). In addition to  our knowledge from the methodology to prevent/reduce it.

We anticipate that these steps will help reduce the issue of turbulence and make a plane ride more enjoyable for all.

Summary

Madaras and Friends is a company dedicated to reducing the amount of turbulence on plane rides and making it a more enjoyable ride for all. Madaras and Friends is implementing the addition of a new technology called NEXRAD Turbulence Detection Algorithm (NTDA) software map on nearly all planes. This technology will help detect areas of high wind & where planes are likely to experience turbulence. Madaras and friends also came up with a 5 step method in solving this crisis. If you want a smooth and relaxing ride, Madaras and friends should be your number one choice.
